Hydro-Tech announced the launch of MS8240, a new generation Multibeam Echo Sounder capable of working at multi-frequency from 150 kHz to 450kHz adjustable at 10kHz step and also high frequency of 500kHz & 600kHz or optional for 700kHz. This Multibeam platform revolutionizes the previous single frequency multibeam roadmap with more flexible working frequency, while enabling ultra-high resolution and fine target features at 500, 600 or 700kHz and super wide sounding range of depth at 150kHz.
In order to have more customers experience the excellent performance of MS8240, we did sea trail of various frequency and comparison test to world leading brand’s famous model. To respect to our rival, we would not say the actual model name but just call it as “RX”.
The test was done in a river around a bridge. Water depth is from 8 to 13 meters.
We use our latest survey and data acquisition software, which can show the 3D point cloud real-time.
Below is the result of 400kHz at left and 600kHz at right side.
Then we surveyed the bridge pier. The below picture is the result of RX. We can see the right angle turns to be some curve and the side edges of the bottom foundation are somewhat blurred. Of course, since its points scatter on flat terrain averagely, the riverbed area’s result seems very beautiful,
While MS8240 captures the details accurately, including the right angle of the bridge column to the bottom foundation and the step on side edge of the bottom foundation, MS8240 keeps the exact shape vividly.
The same, MS8240 can see the foot edge of the bridge pier clearly from the top view.
According to the test, we are very proud that MS8240 can display the corner of underwater construction accurately and keep more details in small target detection. This contributes to non-smoothing processing that we had insisted for all of these years, even the algorithm is much harder to reach and the survey data may not so beautiful in some irregular area. But we know our mission is to explore the real underwater planet no matter whether it is a chaos.
Conclusions :
1.MS8240’s major specifications, including swath sector, maximum Ping rate, maximum sounding depth and bathymetric performance is nearly the same as worlding leading multibeam.
2.MS8240’s working frequency covers a wider frequency range, which means its future potential applications are more diversified.
3.MS8240’s ultra-highresolution and super clean data enable it to capture the fine target feature at the similar performance as world leading multibeam.
4.MS8240 is lower power consumption, deck unit is smaller and much easierto install onto various platform.
